At Nelson District Court Nelson Pine Industries has been fined $50K after pleading guilty to failing to take all practicable steps to ensure a worker's safety in respect of an accident in which a supervisor was injured when his head became trapped in a machine under a stacker table on a line press.

He was investigating a problem with the automatic stacker table which stacks fibreboard when the machine activated and his head was caught between the table frame and the rear of the magazine arm. Investigation found that the machine was not completely guarded on its underside.
