A 17-year old worker at Sub Surface Engineering Ltd in Fareham was standing beside a forklift truck with an arm extension being used to move sheet steel when the arm and its load fell and broke his ankle.
The general manager of Sub Surface, who was operating the forklift without adequate training, was fined £2,500 plus £1,000 costs.
An HSE official commented that "adequate planning of the lifting operation and the use of suitable equipment would have avoided this injury to a young trainee."
